Players to Watch: Alain Syhanath
Wendler: Alain, how long are you playing already for Société Générale FC?
Syhanath: I was helping our company to build this team almost three and a half years ago. When a friend of mine asked me if I was interested in playing soccer with some of my colleagues after work, I did not hesitate for one second to say ‘yes’.
Wendler: Are you a bit more nervous on match days than usual?
Syhanath: For sure. I am still very excited to be part of the Canadian Corporate Soccer League. It is really moving for me to compete in the Percival Molson Memorial Stadium every week. When you enter the arena, you feel like a semi-professional player.
Wendler: This season you are officially joining the Premiership for the first time. What are your expectations?
Syhanath: There are usually a lot of good teams in the Premiership. We are trying our best to improve the level of our game as soon as possible. Since the start to the season was not that great for us, we will continue to train hard.
Wendler: Do you have any personal goals?
Syhanath: No, statistics are not important to me. I consider myself as a team player. My goal is that my friends and I have fun during the season.
Wendler: As captain of Société Générale FC, one of your tasks is to motivate your teammates. How do you keep up the mood in the locker room?
Syhanath: Communication is the key to success. Over the last years I have learned to be more self-confident when it comes down to holding a speech before a match kicks off. We are only able to survive in this league, if we work together as a group.
Wendler: Would you say that the chemistry in your office has improved since you joined CCSL?
Syhanath: Definitely! It is always fun to talk about the outcome of a match. We often meet during our lunch breaks and discuss the strategy for the next weekend. Everyone is really committed to play for Société Générale FC.
Wendler: Alain, thank you for this interview.
