Wendler: Fernando, congratulations for beating Pliab FC in the 2017 Playoff Final and winning the title in Division 1. What is your resume of the season?
Collier: Thank you. We are very proud of what we were able to achieve this summer. The season was really tough. I had to come back from an injury for instance and could not help the team in the first few week.
Wendler: How difficult is it to be successful in the Canadian Corporate Soccer League (CCSL)?
Collier: Honestly, much harder than I remember it to be. I was already part of a championship team in 2011, before I quit playing soccer in the CCSL for a while due to my injuries. Back in the days, the games were definitely less technical. I can tell that the organization of the teams on the pitch has become far more professional.
Wendler: Can you describe me what was going through your head directly after the end of the final?
Collier: It was just a great feeling. All my teammates are good friends of mine. For me, there is nothing better than to celebrate with them. Especially, when you were pushing yourself all summer long to reach this one big goal.
Wendler: Did you celebrate the title with your teammates?
Collier: Yes, of course. We did not really plan something before the final, because we were not sure if we would be able to pull off the victory. In the end, we decided to drink a couple of beers together after the game.
Wendler: What makes competing in the CCSL so special for you?
Collier: It is my passion to play soccer. Every time I enter the pitch, I know that I am at the right place. I want to help my teammates to win, even if I am still a bit afraid of getting injured again.
Wendler: Fernando, thank you for this interview.
